Selective inhibition of MHC-I (main histocompatibility-I) antigen expression on cell surface
Natural killer (NK) cells belong to the front line of natural immune response against cancer. NK cells do not attack cells if they are covered by a certain quantity of MCH-I molecules. It is a general characteristic of metastasising cancer cells that they disguise themselves as normal cells by synthesizing large quantities of MCH-I molecules, thereby avoiding the attack of NK cells. Avemar significantly reduces the MHC-I synthesis capability of tumour cells and prevents them from disguising themselves, leading to their destruction by NK cells.
Conclusions: The inhibition of MCH-I synthesis contributes to the increase of cellular immune response and the inhibition of cancer cell proliferation
